Fallstudie: Round baling of sugar beet pulp (video)

SCHWEIZ: Ballierung von Rübenschnitzel

This is a case study of how the Flexus heavy duty round baling system is implemented at the sugar beet processing facility in Aarberg, Switzerland. Schweizer Zucker AG is baling around 30.000 tons of sugar beet pulp during the period of october to the end of the year. To meet demands and cover a wider range of usage, some of the beet pulp is baled during night time when normal transport and logistics is inactive and stored for further transportation by train or truck.

- Wrapped round bales have an anaerobic chemistry inside the bale, which eliminates methanogenic activities. This prevents any spontaneous combustion in the baled material, making it safe to transport by land and sea.

- Having the baled material tightly sealed in a round bale also retains all the energy and calorific value of the material, making it highly suitable for storage and transportation of high-energy materials intended for incineration, RDF, SRF, agricultural materials and similar.

- With a sealed environment inside the bale, no further decomposition takes place. This significantly lessens the odor generated by the waste inside. Furthermore, the sealed bales keeps the workers, equipment, vehicles and environment around the handling area clean, making it possible to reuse equipment and space with little or no cleanup afterwards.

- One feature of the sealed round bales is that it minimizes the attraction of pests and vermin like rats and birds. With no straight access to the waste, vermin won't be drawn to it, in stark contrast to an open landfill for example, where vermin thrive.
